Museum of Art and History.jpg

Join Girls Rock for a first-ever ride on Saturday February 8 (rain date Feb. 9) from the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH)! We’re celebrating the opening of Trailblazers, exploring the home-grown creativity and culture of Santa Cruz mountain biking. Marking the occasion, we’ll ride with the first-ever female inducted into Mountain Bike Hall-of-Fame, living legend and founder of the Women's Mountain Bike and Tea Society (WOMBATS)  Jacquie Phelan. We can credit Jacquie with blazing a trail for groups like Girls Rock and WTF Bikexplorers; Jacquie will be introduced by Whitney Ford-Terry of the MAH.

Schedule

  • 9: 00 am – pre-ride mingling, fuel; Ride Guide meeting

  • 9:30 am – Announcements followed by raffle featuring supporters including OspreyBell and Clif Bar

  • 10:00 am – Roll out to area trails, including Delaveaga, Emma McCrary, Rincon and UConn

Girls Rock Ride > MORCA

We're extra excited to help you with a fresh start -- a new year, a new decade -- and a new ride location! The ladies of MORCA will guide Girls Rock riders on our first outing of 2020 at Fort Ord! They're hosting us with coffee and breakfast bites at the Creekside Terrace Trailhead, followed by our signature raffle featuring fab prizes from friends at Bell HelmetsBicycle TripABS and new supporter, Osprey packs (did you know they were born in Santa Cruz?).

Here’s what to expect at all our rides:

  • Girls Rock is a free, monthly, no-drop ride, open to all levels. Please reference our ride levels when choosing your group.

  • No drop means that we account for everyone and regroup to wait for slower riders, so no rider is left on her own.

  • As a rider, you need to provide your own transportation to the ride; a bike, helmet, shoes, protective eyewear/sunglasses, water/food. Here’s a complete description of how to prepare for a mountain bike ride.

  • This is a social ride at a social pace. If waiting for others isn’t for you, we have a Google Group and Slack. See the sign-up on our home page. There, you can propose to lead rides between rides and share your pace and time constraints.

  • We meet at different hosts each ride. Our hosts and supporters are mostly around Santa Cruz. Like any good friend, our hosts provide us hospitality, facilities and good cheer at a level they are able. Please return the favor: When you ride with us, you can shop and tell your friends how cool they are to let us drop in on them!

  • If you are lucky enough to get to demo a bike at our hosts, great! BUT do not count on it. Read our invitations carefully to determine if demos are offered. And sign up for demos as soon as they are offered. Our hosts are in business to sell bikes, so if you aren’t thinking about buying, it’s best to find an alternative.

  • We are completely volunteer-run, not paid coaches/ guides. Many of us started riding with this group. Do you want to get involved? Please join us! We need help at all levels.
