Get excited: Our first Girls Rock ride of 2022 is coming, and we’re looking forward to riding with the ladies of MORCA, who will help guide riders through the stunning trails of Fort Ord! Yes, we are revisiting an ideal winter riding spot, just a short drive south, where sandy trails drain well and hold up in wet winter conditions.
Tickets are available by donation, starting at $1.00 + Eventbrite fees, to help defray permit cost. Contact alexis@girlsrock-mtb.com if you are unable to donate.
IMPORTANT: NEW LOCATION
Because trailheads are filled to capacity, Ft. Ord’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is offering Girls Rock an alternative ride-start location, normally closed to traffic
LOCATION & PARKING
Our permit offers our group entry to a parking area normally closed to the public. To get to the trailhead, drive to the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, 2900 Parker Flats Cut Off Rd. An official will be there between 8:45am and 9:45 am. to help guide your entry from there.
Driving directions:
1. From Hwy 1, exit 406 toward Lightfighter Dr.
2. Right in Gen Jim Moore Blvd.
3. Left on Gigling Rd.
4. Right on Parker Flats Cut Off Rd.
5. Left on Parker Flats Road
Wait in your vehicle at the Cemetery entrance until an official opens the gate to the work center. Signs there will read AUTHORIZED VEHICLES ONLY.
After we park and unload, we'll follow our typical Ft. Ord ride format but in a pandemic-safe manner: Limited gathering time. Proof of vaccination required. After check-in, raffle and group photo, we’ll break into smaller groups by level and ride out to Ft. Ord trails. Bring a hat, warm clothes to change into, snacks and a Thermos of hot tea — so you can stay a moment to ring in the New Year with new friends.
SCHEDULE
9:30 am — Check-in, fuel up, volunteer guide meeting
9:45 am — Announcements, raffle with exciting prizes from Osprey, Bell and generous donors
10:00 am — Roll out to Ft. Ord trails
12:00 – 2:00pm — Ride ends, you are invited to mingle safely before heading out!
IMPORTANT
Bonus for beginners: This location is similar to 8th & Gigling, flatter than Creekside. If you're unsure about which level to join, take a look at our Ride Levels page. Get familiar with Safe Passages -- Ft. Ord's trail etiquette campaign and support MORCA -- all on their website.
Please bring proof of vaccination and be prepared to show proof at check-in
Safety first: Bring your helmet, eye protection, water, jacket, and a mountain bike in good working order
Don't be sorry! Bring locks to secure bikes; do not leave valuables unattended
Sorry, no demos this month. However, feel free to check with local brands and bike shops if you are shopping for a new ride!
Linger post-ride in comfort: Bring a change of (warm) clothes, hot drinks /snacks to enjoy while you mingle safely outdoors
BE A TRAIL AMBASSADOR, EARN PRIZES
Ft Ord/BLM now has two ways visitors can be entered into their Safe Passages trail ambassadorship raffle.
1). A trail ambassador sees a visitor following the Safe Passages protocols and is entered in the raffle.
2). Follow this link to a quick slide presentation for Safe Passages. There is a short quiz at the end. Upon completion of the quiz (with a passing score) you can enter into a raffle for a $50 REI gift card.
Pedal on,
