It's our return to Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing (SCMB)! Yes, we are revisiting our Girls Rock roots, when all good rides ended at SCMB. We'll start and end our ride there ... easy peasy!
We’ll follow our usual format, but in a pandemic-safe manner: Limited gathering time, smaller groups and participation numbers and mandatory proof of vaccination. After check-in, our exclusive raffle and big group photo, we’ll break into smaller groups by level, and roll out to Wilder and UCSC trails.
Schedule:
9:30 am – Check-in, fuel up, volunteer guide meeting
9:45 am – Announcements, raffle with exciting prizes from Osprey, Bell and generous donors
10:00 am – Roll out to our fav Santa Cruz trails in Wilder Ranch & UCSC
12:00 - 2:00pm – Ride ends, but the fun continues at SCMB!
Location & Parking:
We will meet at Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing (SCMB), which is in the bustling Swift Street Courtyard complex on Santa Cruz’s Westside. Address: 402 Ingalls St #27, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Please use free street parking on Ingalls or Swift so that the lot is freed up for patrons while we ride.
Important Reminders:
Safety first: Bring your helmet, eye protection, water, sunscreen/long sleeves/long socks; and a mountain bike in good working order
Don't be sorry! Bring locks to secure bikes after the ride; do not leave valuables unattended
Sorry, no demos this month. However, feel free to check with our area brands and bike shops if you are shopping for a new ride!
What to Expect: Safety & Pandemic Precautions
When things go according to plan, sports like mountain biking can be conducted safely. BUT, as we know, life doesn't always follow a script. Because of this, we must ask you to take all necessary precautions to minimize risk to yourselves and to protect others. This includes only participating only if you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
General Advisories
We welcome participants who are fully vaccinated and who are healthy/symptom-free.
Every Californian age 12 and older is now eligible for a COVID vaccine. Please bring proof of vaccination: A photo of your vaccination card on your cell phone is great!
If you feel ANY symptoms of ANY illness, if you are exposed to someone sick, please stay home and take care of yourself. We will look forward to seeing you on the next ride!
Riders under 18 are welcome but must be self-sufficient like our adult participants.
Travel, Location, Facilities
We encourage riders who are new to Girls Rock and/or new to the area to attend.
Please follow state guidelines on travel to our rides. We discourage non-essential travel to our rides to minimize impact on first responders and essential workers.
Please take care driving to the venue and allow time for weekend traffic.
We meet at our host location to make pre-ride announcements, then we will break into smaller groups and head towards the trailhead; we will be out on our ride for approximately 2-3 hours. There are generally no “facilities” available during our rides, so please plan accordingly.
Don't be sorry! Bring locks to secure bikes and do not leave valuables in your car unattended.
Social Distancing
Our COVID precautions follow local (Santa Cruz County Public Health Department) and state guidance available at the time of the scheduled ride: If required by the Health Department and/or our hosts, please wear a mask indoors, and when you are unable to social distance.
We are capping participant registration at this time a max of 12 per group, which will include two volunteer guides. We are limiting total participation to 50.
To minimize contact, there will be minimal announcements and mechanical checks pre-ride.
Close of registration before each event will be 12 pm the day before the ride to allow sufficient time for volunteer assignment.
There will be water and restrooms available. Hosted post-ride gathering will be eliminated or limited compared to during “normal” times, and host-dependent. See the ride invite for details.
Communication
If you register, we expect that you will show up
If you need to cancel for any reason, you can cancel on Eventbrite. If you aren’t sure how to, please contact the ride organizer.
This is a “no-drop ride.” This means that the group sticks together with its guide, regroups and waits at junctions and waits for the slowest rider to rejoin. Plan on staying with your group for the entire ride.
If you should need to part ways before the ride ends, tell your guides and pair up with a buddy. There is often no cell signal out on the trail.
Wear identification / in case of emergency (ICE) contact info, ideally where visible
Riding Safety & Trail Etiquette
Always ride within your limits and mind the rules of the trail
We ask that you take extra care to prepare before the ride:
Be familiar with mountain bike safety | Learn more
We typically do not have mechanics on site! If something seems off, contact your local bike shop for service. Do not count on someone being able to fix your bike at the ride.
Check your bike the day before the ride AND the morning of the ride: Lube your chain, add air to your tires as needed, check your brakes
Bring: proof of vaccination, identification, a face mask, helmet, protective eyewear, riding shoes, a full water bottle/hydration pack, and snacks
Other: charged cell phone, sunscreen, bug spray, riding gloves, long socks, packable jacket, knee & elbow protection, poison oak supplies, multi-tool, tube(s), compact pump or CO2, personal hand sanitizer
Learn more about how to prepare and protect yourself
Volunteers will be briefed before our rides on these precautions.

New to Girls Rock? Here’s What You Can Expect at Our Rides
Girls Rock is a free, monthly, no-drop ride, open to all levels. Please reference our ride levels when choosing your group.
No drop means that we account for everyone and regroup to wait for slower riders, so no rider is left on her own.
As a rider, you need to provide your own transportation to the ride; a bike, helmet, shoes, protective eyewear/sunglasses, water/food. Here’s a complete description of how to prepare for a mountain bike ride.
This is a social ride at a social pace. If waiting for others isn’t for you, we have a Google Group and Slack. See the sign-up on our home page. There, you can propose to lead rides between rides and share your pace and time constraints.
We meet at different hosts each ride, and ride to area trailheads. Our hosts and supporters are mostly around Santa Cruz. Like any good friend, our hosts provide us hospitality, facilities and good cheer at a level they are able. Please return the favor: When you ride with us, you can shop and tell your friends how cool they are to let us drop in on them!
If you are lucky enough to get to demo a bike at our hosts, great! BUT do not count on it. Read our invitations carefully to determine if demos are offered. And sign up for demos as soon as they are offered. Our hosts are in business to sell bikes, so if you aren’t considering buying, try to borrow a bike until you are ready.
Area trailheads are various distances from our hosts. You may have to ride open streets to get to the trailhead, so it is important to ride safely in traffic.
We ride on the weekends when trails are most congested trails. Read more for tips on avoiding trail conflict.
We are completely volunteer-run, not paid coaches/ guides. Many of us started riding with this group. Do you want to get involved? Please join us! We need help at all levels.
